What Are Positive Affirmations, And How To Use Them?

Updated: Jun 15

What Are Positive Affirmations?

Positive affirmations are positive words put together to remind you of who you are. And also, affirmations help you to; gain new positive thoughts as new mental skills.

Affirmations help you to; regain the lost positive attitude during the time and give you a chance to allow yourself to live it again.

Affirmations are Healthy Reminders to get back to yourself and motivate you to go forward. So you can create the lifestyle that you love.

How To Use The Affirmations?

Positive Affirmations are self-activation and self-help tools. Affirmations can be more effective when you repeat them standing up after doing the following:

A- Prepare Yourself

Before you start reciting an affirmation, do the following steps to activate all parts of your brain, body, and spirit:

  1. Physical activities: Recall the last time you won something or achieved something? Do you remember how you felt physically? Recall that feeling within your physical body. At the same time, stand like a hero. Or like an athlete after winning a race, putting your hands up in a winning position for two minutes. Or do any physical activity that feels good to you.

  2. Mental calculations: Add two numbers. Subtract two numbers. And multiply two numbers.

  3. Sing a little song: Choose a song that reminds you that you are a wonderful person, and sing it to yourself.

  4. Imagine colors: Recall the last time that you were delighted. What color do you remember? Close your eyes, take this color with your hands, put it in front of you, make it bigger, then wrap yourself within it.

  5. Smile and Laugh: Recall something that made you happy, think about it and let it make you laugh again or smile big.

B- Recite

Now pick an affirmation and say it five times a day for 30 days. It can be helpful if you can choose a specific time to recite your affirmations.

Such as; (1) as soon as you wake up, (2) at breakfast time, (3) at lunchtime, (4) at dinner time, and (5) before going to sleep, or on a schedule that works best for you.

C- Achieve

Take one minute after reciting an affirmation to visualize and imagine yourself achieving the result that you just repeated as an affirmation.

Summary

A- Before reciting your affirmation, do the following:

  1. Physical activities: dance a couple of steps.

  2. Mental calculations: 86+84=? 20x5=?

  3. Sing a little song: hum a lullaby.

  4. Imagine colors: remember a beautiful moment and associate it with a color in your mind.

  5. Laugh: remember the face of someone that makes you happy, and smile or laugh.

B- Recite: read an affirmation.

C- Visualize: Meditate and visualize achieving what you are reading.
